I’ve laid down in the shallow water Running thick and crimson With the blood of Kings Ain’t no grace in dying in their slaughter They’ll try and us when that church bell rings They’ll try and hang us when that church bell rings There ain’t much left but whiskey and sugar Ain’t much left they can come take away The blood in your tears in running thick as molasses Ain’t gonna let ‘em come and take you away Ain’t gonna let ‘em come and take you away Out on the hill There’s a Hangin’ Tree It waiting for you And its waiting for me I’ve seen men Coming down from the mountains Ain’t gonna let ‘em come and take you away Ain’t gonna let ‘em come and take you away I don’t believe in guardian angels I think mine’s fallen And lost his way Don’t make a sound when death comes knockin’ Ain’t gonna let ‘em come and take you away Ain’t gonna let ‘em come and take you away Out on the hill There’s a Hangin’ Tree It waiting for you And its waiting for me I’ve seen men Coming down from the mountains Ain’t gonna let ‘em come and take you away Ain’t gonna let ‘em come and take you away There are those who believe that money is power And they’ll try and fill you head with blame With a wink and a smile they’ll send you off to slaughter They will try and and make you feel ashamed Don’t you ever, ever feel ashamed I will not let them make you feel ashamed Don’t you ever, ever feel ashamed I will not let them make you feel ashamed Don’t you ever, ever feel ashamed Out on the hill There’s a Hangin’ Tree It waiting for you And its waiting for me I’ve seen men Coming down from the mountains Ain’t gonna let ‘em come and take you away Ain’t gonna let ‘em come and take you away

about

I recorded this in 2004-05 for my Pop. Everything else I had recorded up until then gave him a near heart attack. He was sick, and I wanted him to listen to something, by his son, that wouldn't push him one more step to the grave. so I did. I'm glad I did. i think he liked it.

They say that one's self measure in in the company one keeps. I'm not too sure about my own measure, but I sure do keep some damned great company. The other musicians on this recording are not only some truly gifted folks, but some truly magnificent human beings t'boot.I can't thank them enough for coming down and adding color, shape, depth, spit, grit and shine to my funny little tunes. I'm proud to have them as friends and "company". They are: Rich Morin, Janis Tanaka, Sigrid Sheie, Steve Farzan, Jamie Myers, Allison Lovejoy, Dan Cantrell, Jackie Gratz and Lucas Hicks.
Also: A mountainous heap o' thanks, kudos and all that to Bart Thurber for recording, engineering, and being the Golden Ear, channeling my weird little sounds through his 16 track, magical machine. He also made me laugh when I needed to.
I'll see youz down the road a bit. Cheers-Chewy.
